Safety tips

TrustVerify helps you make more informed decisions. Verification and ratings do not guarantee that a transaction is completely risk-free. Always take additional precautions before sending money.

Do not pay the full amount upfront

For goods, repairs and property, use staged payments or pay on delivery where possible.

Meet in a public place

For first-time sellers, meet at a mall, park or busy shop — not a private residence.

Confirm the phone number independently

Nigerian numbers often start with 070, 080, 081, 090 or 091, or +234. Compare the number with receipts and social pages.

Inspect property yourself

Never send inspection or agency fees to an agent you have not met. Visit with a trusted person in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Lagos or anywhere else.

Ask for a receipt

A genuine business should be able to issue a receipt, invoice or transfer confirmation in the business name.

Beware of urgency and secrecy

Scammers often insist you pay immediately and tell you not to tell anyone.

Separate verification from rumours

User reviews and complaints are opinions or reports. They are not the same as a TrustVerify verification badge.

Give businesses a chance to respond

Read the business response before you treat a complaint as the full story.

Protect personal information

Do not share BVN, NIN copies or bank tokens in a public review. TrustVerify does not publish sensitive verification documents.
